What Exactly is a Crick in the Neck?

Unlike general neck pain, a crick in the neck feels distinctly like your neck is misaligned. There may be an intense sensation that something is off, as if you need to snap it back into place. One of the worst aspects of the condition is how it limits your mobility—the sense of stiffness can make it difficult to perform common movements. For this reason, it’s important to treat a crick as soon as you notice it—before your mobility becomes further impaired.

  • A tight, stiff feeling in the neck and surrounding muscles

Most likely, this will go away as the day goes on, but if it persists, it may require treatment. To avoid this, try to be mindful of how you position your neck before you go to sleep, careful to keep your neck aligned with your spine.
